This course explores both traditional and contemporary Indigenous approaches to social work; reflecting on Indigenous worldviews, teachings, languages, and ceremonies while also critically assessing the impacts of colonialism and oppressive social policies on Indigenous communities in Canada. The course analyzes Indigenous life in both pre-contact and post-contact contexts, emphasizing the effects of colonialism and the integral role of social work in facilitating positive change. Various concepts and perspectives are integrated within the broader social work theory and practice framework, providing essential insights and competencies for effective engagement within the field. 3 cr.
