The Centre for the vitality of Vale lakes Laurentian University (CVLV) has won two prestigious awards from the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA), the Design Excellence Award 2015 Excellence Award 2015 sustainable design.
The first prize, which is based on the creativity criteria, context, sustainability and heritage, has been awarded this year to ten buildings designed by the Ontario Association of Architects. The second, the Excellence in sustainable design, was handed over to CVLV only because of the character marking its achievements, namely the reduction of dependence on fossil fuels, reduced use of virgin materials, reducing the consumption of drinking water and high quality indoor environment, the three considerations underlying price.
Ranked among the greenest buildings in Canada, the CVLV, officially opened in 2011 on the southern shore of Lake Ramsey in Sudbury, was designed by architects JL Richards and Associates Ltd, in association with Perkins + Will Architects, and built to meet LEED platinum standards. Its futuristic bill as a unique center of excellence for the study of freshwater systems, their health and their sanitation places it in the context of the 2050 climate and energy efficiency is estimated to exceed 70 percent than conventional buildings because the CVLV uses natural light and shade, as well as geothermal heating systems and gray water recycling to reduce its footprint.

We noted in giving shape to a building materials and systems have no negative impact on the health and welfare of Ramsey Lake, but better still a positive cultural impact in the city. We are very pleased to be recognized by OAO both for design excellence for excellence in sustainable design. "
The Centre for the vitality of lakes Vale is the workplace of researchers and faculty and student population in some biology study programs and environment of the University and it also hosts researchers Laurentian partners from the joint unit fresh water ecology, Department of Environment and Action on climate change and the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ontario Forestry.
"The building is, in itself, an affirmation of office of the Centre Vale Living with Lakes. The building lines, the regional origin of materials and views of Lake Ramsey, making it one of the most beautiful structures in the region, said the Director of Laurentian University facilities, Brad Parkes. The Centre hosts many public events and I think the Laurentian community and the community of Greater Sudbury are very proud of this outstanding facility. "
