Sudbury ON, September 23, 2015 - On the occasion of the festivities surrounding the Day of Franco-Ontarians and Franco Ontariennes, the rector and vice-chancellor of Laurentian University, Dominic Giroux, congratulates all of the Francophone community the province for his achievements and for the holding of major events taking place, moreover, in the 400 th French presence in Ontario anniversary.
First bilingual university in Ontario officially recognized under the Act French Language Services , Laurentian based in particular and for that one week of celebrations four major events contributing to expand the Francophone space in Northern Ontario and across the province :
- the banquet of Franco-Ontarians of ACFO of Greater Sudbury, Thursday, September 24;
- the raising of the Franco-Ontarian flag at the University of Sudbury, Friday, September 25;
- the French Fest Slague, Friday, September 25;
- 5 th Francophone Symposium of the School of Medicine of Northern Ontario,
from 24 to 26 September.
Recall that the members of the university community of Laurentian are also behind the creation of the Franco-Ontarian flag which this year celebrates its 40 th anniversary and played a leading role in the development of flagship organizations Franco-Ontarian culture including Éditions Prise de parole, the Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario and the Night of the pond.

Through its Office of Francophone Affairs, Laurentian concluded this year more than 50 agreements with its university and community associations to enhance the development and vitality of French-speaking culture in Ontario.
